First Lady Calls For AI Literacy With Nationwide Student Competition

First Lady Melania Trump announced the launch of the Presidential Artificial Intelligence (AI) Challenge, a nationwide initiative inviting K-12 students and educators to learn about artificial intelligence and develop projects that showcase its potential.

“The Presidential AI Challenge will be the first step in preparing our next generation with a base understanding of this important new technology,” Trump said in a video posted on AI.gov.

Trump highlighted her own experience using AI while creating her audiobook, saying the technology will soon transform every sector of the economy. “In just a few short years, artificial intelligence will be the engine driving every business sector across our economy. It is important that America leads the rest of the world,” she said.

The challenge aims to promote AI literacy and encourage students to explore both the opportunities and risks of the fast-developing technology.

In July, President Trump announced the AI Action plan at an event hosted by the Hill & Valley Forum including the All-in podcast featuring President Trump’s AI Czar, David Sacks. Calling it Winning the Race, executives including most of the president’s cabinet and CEOs including  Jensen Huang, President and CEO of NVIDIA and new Scale AI CEO.
